OCAC Programs and Art Classes
OCAC programming reaches audiences of all ages, with particular focus on children, adolescents and young adults. Current and upcoming activities include art classes, two Summer Art Camps and the programs listed below. NOTE:
*All classes are held in the basement of the Carnegie Cultural Center at 5th & Main.
*Classes with fewer than 5 pre-enrolled students may be cancelled.
*Enrollment fee must be paid before the first schedule class date in order to secure position in class. Students are strongly encouraged to pre-register early as it is first come, first served.
OYAA! : Ottawa Youth Artists Alliance Always free to join!
The Ottawa Youth Artists Alliance, or OYAA! is a free art club for youth who enjoy art. Sponsored by the Ottawa Community Arts Council and held in the lower level of the Carnegie Cultural Center at 5th & Main, it meets every Friday from 4-6 PM. OYAA! provides a safe environment for kids to create art and express themselves while learning about responsibility and creative problem solving. Some activities include: *creating art to sell, *art fundraisers, *painting murals, *art field trips, *youth exhibitions, and so much more! I CAN DRAW & PAINT Cost: $40
Beginner drawing and painting class where students learn how to improve art skills in a fun learning environment.
Ages: 5-7 yrs Times: 4-5pm
Dates: Mondays 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6 and 2/13
SKETCH IT Cost: $40
Intermediate drawing class where students will build on their basic drawing skills while learning new techniques.
Ages: 8-11 yrs Times: 4-5pm Dates: Wednesdays 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8 and 2/15 COMIC BOOK CONCEPTS Cost: $40 In this fun art class students learn the basics of creating their own comic books from start to finish.
Ages: 9-13 yrs Times: 5-6pm Dates: Wednesdays 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8 and 2/15 PAINT IT Cost: $40 Intermediate painting class where students will learn about a variety of different painting techniques.
Ages: 8-11 yrs Times: 4-5pm Dates: Thursdays 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9 and 2/16 PAPER MACHE MONSTERS Cost: $40 This is a paper mache sculpture class that students will get to create and build their own monsters out of everyday items.
Ages: 8-11 yrs Times: 1-3pm Dates: Saturdays 2/18, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10 and 3/17 CLAY CREATIONS Cost: $40 This beginner ceramics class will teach students the basics of shape and form by working hands-on with clay.
Ages: 5-11 yrs Times: 4-5pm Dates: Mondays 2/20, 2/27, 3/5, 3/12 and 3/26 ABSTRACT MADNESS & CREATIVE SKETCHBOOKS Cost: $40 In this exciting class students learn about techniques and processes behind creating unique and fun sketchbooks or journals.
Ages: 6-11 yrs Times: 5-6pm Dates: Wednesdays 2/22, 2/29, 3/7, 3/14 and 3/28 MEET THE ARTIST Cost: $40 This class introduces students to famous artists through a variety of fun projects such as drawing and painting to sculpture.
Ages: 5-11 yrs Times: 4-5pm Dates: Mondays 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23 and 4/30 RECYCLED ART Cost: $40 Students will create art pieces using material they might find around the house. Projects will consist of making a variety of fun artwork from mosaics to cubist cardboard creations. Teacher: Lori Wilkins

PHOTOGRAPHY II Cost: $40 In this intermediate photography class students will learn more about the settings and abilities of their camera. Supplies: Students must bring their own digital camera, memory card and a USB flash drive. Pre-requisite: Must have taken a photography class before or be 11 years old or older.
Ages: 9-14 yrs Times: 4-6pm Dates: Wednesdays 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25 and 5/2 ACTING CLASSES! $40/5-week session with Marilyn Pilkey OCAC Spring 2012 THEATRE ARTS Classes All youth classes will be held in the basement of the Carnegie Cultural Center - 501 S. Main St. - Ottawa, KS Please pre-register by calling Stephanie Williamson at (785) 418-5576. HINT: Enroll Now - these classes will fill quickly! Cost: $40 Beginning acting class for elementary students. Have fun pretending to be someone else, learn the art of Pantomime & try some easy Reader's Theatre. Ends with a short show for your parents on February 16. Grades 1 - 5 Time: 5 - 6 p.m. Dates: Thursdays, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16 More advanced improvisation games, musical pantomimes, & monologues. Lots of informal group performances. Grades 6 - 12 Time: 4 - 5:30 p.m. Session I: Mondays, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6 2/13 Adult Introductory Improvisation Cost: $40 Many improvisatory theatre games, leading to the ability to "think on one's feet" and create scenes from a variety of sources and prompts. Ages 18 - 88 Time: 6:30 - 8 p.m. Session I: Mondays, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13 Grade school children explore the world of fairy tales and magic, through creative dramatics. March Madness Theatre Camp

About the instructor: Marilyn Pilkey
is a credentialed theatre arts teacher with many years experience in California public schools, teaching youngsters to act. She created the Children's Theatre Project, which is still running.
